OTHELLO BY W. SHAKESPEARE

Othello is a tragedy written by the renowned playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616). The play revolves around the titular character, Othello, a noble Moorish general in the Venetian army. Othello secretly marries Desdemona, a young Venetian woman of high social standing, which sparks jealousy and manipulation among the other characters.

Iago, Othello's ensign and a master manipulator, becomes consumed with jealousy and resentment when he is passed over for promotion in favor of Cassio, a younger and less experienced officer. In order to seek revenge, Iago plots to convince Othello that Desdemona has been unfaithful to him with Cassio.

Through clever manipulation and deceit, Iago successfully plants seeds of doubt in Othello's mind, gradually convincing him of Desdemona's infidelity. Othello's once-loving relationship with Desdemona becomes strained, leading to tragic consequences.

Driven by his jealousy and mistrust, Othello becomes consumed with rage and ultimately suffocates Desdemona to death. Upon realizing his grave mistake, Othello takes his own life, unable to bear the guilt and remorse of his actions.

The play explores themes of jealousy, deception, racism, and the destructive power of unchecked emotions. Othello's tragic downfall is a result of his susceptibility to manipulation and his inability to control his emotions, ultimately leading to his undoing.
